The Malasakit Center is a one-stop medical/financial assistance in the Department of Health's (DOH) accredited hospitals, established through Republic Act 11463. It makes medical and financial aid requests easier because it brings government agencies under one roof.
The Malasakit Center has a desk where representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), and DOH are stationed to assist those who are in need.
These agencies facilitate smooth transactions as it eliminates the need to go back and forth to different government agencies for financial assistance.
Other hospitals managed by local government units and other public hospitals may establish their Malasakit Center, considering that they meet the criteria and guarantee the availability of funds for its operations, maintenance, personnel, and staff training.
Malasakit Center Requirements and Process
- Go to the Billing Section of the hospital and ask for an assessment of your fees/billing.
- Request a Medical Abstract and bring them to the Malasakit Center
- Fill out the Malasakit Unified Form to request medical assistance.
- The Social Worker in the Center will assist you and lead you to the PhilHealth desk to check for coverage.
- If you or your patient is not a PhilHealth member, you will automatically be given membership.
- You will be directed to PCSO and DOH desks for additional assistance, especially if the assistance from PhilHealth is not enough.
Funding for the Malasakit Center is pulled from the Presidential Social Fund (PSF). A patient may be given up to Php 50,000 aside from the assistance other government agencies may give based on their qualifications and assessments.
All assistance will not be given in cash but through a guarantee letter, which you must provide to the hospital upon settling bills.
Malasakit Centers maintain a database that makes it easier for them to retrieve patients' information. There is also an express lane for persons with disabilities and senior citizens.
Outpatients may also avail of assistance for medical check-ups and medicines.
