The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers DAAD Postgraduate Scholarships for international students of developing countries who wish to pursue their masters and Ph.D. education.
The DAAD Postgraduate Scholarships was founded in 1925 in Heidelberg, Germany, through an initiative of a student. Since then, it has become one of the most essential and influential funding organizations worldwide, especially for international exchange students and researchers.
The German Academic Exchange Service supports over 100,000 German and international students and researchers globally each year, thus, making it the world’s largest funding organization.

Brief Description
- University or Organization: German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)
- Course Level: Postgraduate degree at a state or state-recognized German university, and in exceptional cases to take a doctoral degree, and to obtain a university qualification (Master’s/PhD) in Germany.
- Awards: 861 euros per month for graduates or 1,200 euros per month for doctoral candidates
- Nationality: Foreign Students
- Language: English or German
Eligibility
- Eligible countries: All countries; International Students
- Eligible Course/Subjects: Masters Degree and Postdoctoral Degree
- Graduates who have completed a first degree (e.g. Bachelor, Diploma) at the latest by the time they commence their scholarship-supported study programme.
- A postgraduate or Master's degree programme completed at a state or state-recognised university in Germany
- One year of study in Germany as part of a postgraduate or Master's degree programme with completing the degree abroad; recognition of the academic achievements rendered in Germany must be guaranteed. The standard period of study at the home university should not be exceeded as a result of the study year in Germany.
Funding Duration
- Between 10 and 24 months depending on the length of the chosen study programme
- For two-year courses, further funding is provided after the first year of study, if your academic achievements thus far indicate that you will successfully complete the study programme within a reasonable period of time.
- If you are already in Germany in the first academic year of a 2-year postgraduate or Master's programme at the time of application, you may apply for a scholarship for the second year of study. It is not possible to extend the scholarship.
